2025 WABC Turkey Drive: Feeding 10,000 Families in Need

This holiday season, WABC is proud to help fight food insecurity by giving out 10,000 turkeys to families in need, starting with 2,000 turkeys distributed at the PAL (Police Athletic League) Harlem Center to kick off the event.

One in four NYC Children experience food insecurity a major problem exacerbated by rising food costs and the expiration of pandemic-era aid programs. Many families are forced to skip meals or make difficult trade-offs, with food pantries and soup kitchens seeing a significant increase in visitors. A significant percentage of households, including nearly three-quarters of those with children, struggle financially to afford basic necessities.

Children are approximately one in four children in New York City faces food insecurity, meaning they don't know where their next meal will come from.

Food costs have increased significantly, leading to families skipping meals or cutting back on nutritious items like fruits and vegetables to stay within their budget.

Despite economic growth, half of all New York City households struggle to make ends meet, a number that rises to 74% for households with children.
